While the new school building is advantageous to future I-Poly students, the building plans would prove a great loss to all juniors, seniors, and past alumni. With the new building, comes the demolition of the little portables that we have all grown so accustomed to. We would all leave the school with intangible memories, as the school we dedicated so much of our adolescence to would be nothing more than a mere memory that would live on in stories, photos, and videos. No graduate of the school could ever revisit the ramps again, see the tree in front of Cancino’s, or eve feel the classroom floor squeal as they take slow steps across the portable. However there are Pros:
1. A better image overall of the school in the public eye.
2. The building opens the door to ever-changing innovation, and one day we might surpass most schools in our number of assets and attributes.
3. Shelter from harsh weather conditions(ex: rain, extreme winds, etc).
As for more Cons:
1. Farther walk from lunch area
2. Less parking space (considering it’s being built in the parking lot)
3. Lack of school unity ( “Lot K” would no be an insider)

Many may view the new building as a menace to our established iPoly procedures , but I see it as a bright new opportunity like none we have had before.
Pros of the new building
• No more wading in the pouring rain
• Two floors, which will provide an excellent view of the scenery
• (Hopefully) there will be lockers to put our stuff in
Cons of the new building
• Concrete floors (horribly uncomfortable)
• Further distance from Calpoly, making it difficult for those who have business to attend
• Most likely going to lose all the plants that surround the current campus

Many people have mixed feelings about the new building, some are happy and some are sad. But I feel that by gaining a new building, I-poly can now allow us to do things than we could have never have done before.
Pros of the new building
1) We can finally have hot water in the restrooms
2) Water fountains are available
3) We can finally have a nurse that can be available during school time
Cons of the new building
1) I-Poly will no longer have the infamous “cubicles”
2) A farther distance to Cal Poly (Gym, Student Center, etc.)
3) A bigger building means a longer time to get to class

The new building to many is something that has been long awaited. Even though I may be excited, I see the building in a disdainful light. This is so because, I feel that the trailers serving as classroms that we occupy now, really showcase how creative we are and how willing the school is to thrive with limited resources. Now when people see our school, they won’t have the: “This is your school? …Your kidding, right?” effect. This may seem like a negative thing to be proud of, but it’s what makes people remember us. Once we have the new building, passersby will see it just as another typical school, with typical teachers, and typical routines. The very essence of iPoly will be lost.
It is somewhat difficult to list the pros and cons of the new school because I have yet to see or hear formally what is going to be in it. But here is what I hope will be the pros…
1. Water Fountains
2. I’ve always wanted to go to an indoor school. Just in the knick of time, my wish is granted.
3. Library/Computer Lab
And the cons…
1. No lockers in the hallways
2. No cafeteria, because we will have to walk even further to go to lunch will cut our time drastically.
3. Having classes that are far apart.

Our new building is overall a good thing but if I had a choice, I would leave the school the way it is. Memories are born on Parking Lot K.
Pros
• Shelter from rain (sort of)
• Our own multi purpose room
• Seen as more then a school on a parking lot
Cons
• No more quad Frisbee
• Possibility of enforced rules on school campus
• Possibility of school bell ☹
January 26, 2012 at 8:25 pm
Pros of the new building:
-A newer, more professional image.
-Quite likely, a lower sticker price for a parking pass, if we happen to have our own (Smaller?) lot.
-No more being forced to listen to music we don’t like. (Radio show.)
Cons of the new building:
-No more jokes about being in a parking lot for school.
-Horribly ugly concrete floors. Speaking of which, I have a carpet available at a starting price of five dollars, if anyone would like it.
-We will have to figure out our way around in our new building.

I’ve heard positive and negative reactions towards our new building. My feelings are bittersweet towards the subject in general. I honestly loved that I could say that I studied at a humble little high school made of merely a few portables. I also do think that we will benefit a lot due to the space and equipment the school has needed for a long time.
Here are my thoughts:
Cons:
1. The distance from the new building is far away even from Vista. Vista will become Up, Up will be Up Up, and Up Up will become Up Up Up!!! It’s kinda scary to think about it!!! It would also mean that we might lose the Thinnes store, therefore no buying snacks when desired…. =(
2. I love Radio Broadcast club dearly, as a member, it would sadden me to see it go away because we have no music to play for the school. As a club, we get to entertain people with music without having to play an instrument or be in the music elective. It’s a good outlet to play your style of music, but also music that you have in common with your peers.
3. Bigger school, which means more people. Not to sound anti-social, but if the population increases, that means we’ll be walking into a more clique oriented environment, instead of the family environment that I’ve loved for so long. It will sadden me to see that ambience go away. A higher population would mean less familiarity.
Pros:
1. New restrooms!!! Student restrooms aren’t exactly the cleanest and most functional. Adding some water fountains would be awesome too, because you might as well get rid of two bathroom trips in one trip. I really like those Dyson Airblade hand dryers!!!
2. Brand new equipment!!! I’m excited that we’ll have all new macs, instead of the dinosaur macs we have right now. Paul will also be able to relax a little more often!!! =D We won’t have to deal with slow computers and I would hope we have free wi-fi connection!!!
3. Dropping off and picking up students will be easier because the structure will make it easier to go in and out when we need to. The location is also a lot closer to the bus stop for any bus riders in the school. I get picked up and dropped off all the time, and I take the bus when I need to, so it helps a lot of students in my situation.
Overall, I love my little parking lot school, but with change comes progress. Hopefully, this building bring a lot of new happy memories and we can call that new building “home”.

Positive:
-There will no longer be leaky cealings
-More classroom space
-We’ll be seniors
Negative:
-longer walks for food, but it doesn’t matter cause were seniors
- no radio show? But who cares cause we’ll be seniors
- were less likely to socialize because well have to be in hallways, but it doesn’t matter because we’re seniors.
January 27, 2012 at 11:58 am
*Positives
-We get to be the first class to graduate, because we’ll be seniors.
-We’ll actually have a building instead of portables.
-We will have bigger classrooms to fit more of our projects.
*Negatives
-Longer walks to get food
-Rinning up and down stair to get to class
-It will be like we’re freshman again because of the new surroundings
January 27, 2012 at 1:39 pm
Well, I have a love-hate relationship with the new building.
Pros
-The bathrooms are going to be new! Woo hoo! Warm water will come out of the faucets, and maybe it won’t be flooded every other week.
-We will have more resources (aka computers) to be able to research for assignments.
-Possibly, more kids will come here, as we will finally be a “normal” high school. Well, at least in the sense that we won’t be on a parking lot.
Cons
-We won’t have the same feeling of a community out in the quad.
-No more radio show? I’m definitely going to be late to class…
-We’ll have to learn our school all over again.
Overall, I think the building is a positive adjustment to our school. Plus, being the first class to graduate from it is definitely going to be exciting.
January 27, 2012 at 3:16 pm
I’m excited for the new building, but I also feel like I am losing a part of myself since I have gone to school in portables since 3rd grade. The only time I want to a school with “real buildings” was when I was in early elementary school, which I hardly remember at all. It is an exciting experience, though, since we will have a great new, shiny school.
Pros:
-A new Multi-Purpose building that means we will no longer have to rent out Ursa Minor.
-New school restrooms that will have stalls that can actually close.
-We will have shelter from unwanted weather.
Cons:
-Concrete floors (carpet is so much nicer).
-It will be a farther walk to the food court at Cal Poly.
-We will feel more like a normal school and perhaps lose our sense of unity and family in I-Poly.
January 27, 2012 at 3:54 pm
I haven’t attended ipoly very long so I’m used to the way a normal high school is; concrete floors, lockers, a bell, etc. So I’m looking forward to the new building. I feel like it will make me feel more comfortable here.
Pro’s:
- Closer to the bus stops.
- A nicer image of ipoly.
- A better feel of a traditional high school.
Con’s:
- Farther from CalPoly.
- Taking stairs (I personally hate walking on stairs).
- A bigger campus, I’ve grown to like having my classes so close to each other compared to my previous schools where I would literally run to my next class
January 27, 2012 at 3:57 pm
I poly was always known for a unique family type of school. Though we didn’t have much and are campus in literally a parking lot, we made due and made it a home. All of our memory and adventures happened there. But now we are being moved to an actual school building. Which is an upgrade in some ways and a downgrade in others..
Pros: We will hopefully have better electricity and better air
conditioning (not freezing for the flies during certain seasons.
It will provide better shelter against unpredictable weather.
We will have a more organized school overall.
Cons: You lose that sense of freedom, and feel more like a typical school.
The distance to cal poly and other places for food, hanging out and taking college courses
It won’t feel like we’re graduating from our school that we grew up in. It will be like starting over.
January 27, 2012 at 4:00 pm
A new building. This is wonderful for our school and its’ future. However, I feel somewhat sad that I will be departing the portables. If I hate the new building at least I only spent a year in it. If I love it, I’ll be the first to graduate in it. The pictures of it look cool, there will be newly furnished classroom, and a multipurpose room, but I am sad that I never experienced the senior classrooms but I do like that school is going from portables to a new, awesome looking two story building.
Positive
-iPoly is here to stay. This is a great thing for our school.
-No gloomy looking portables on rainy days and they wont’ leek.
-New classrooms with a strong foundation and bathrooms, but I would be happy is they refilled the soap dispensers regularly.
Negative
-Closer to the bus stop! No more long creepy walks at night after ROP (I had to include this.)
- I will no longer be able to say, “I go to school in a parking lot.”
-It’s a large building. Being a small high school might not last very long.
-Concrete floors and desk and chairs that are not attached.
-The walk to P. E. and Up/UpUp will be farther, giving you a high chance of being late for class.
January 27, 2012 at 5:31 pm
With the new building for I-Poly up, it gives both the students and the teachers a lot to think about. Although this is a huge transition for many of us, it comes with both the good and bad. Here’s my opinion on this bittersweet moment. Let’s start with the Pros.
-Better working environment. (We no longer need to worry about minor things, like air-conditioning, shelter, or storage in classrooms.)
-Each individual classroom will be catered to the major of the teacher. It makes it much easier to teach, as well for the students to learn
-Technology. It helps by making things much more efficient for all of the students working in groups.
Cons:
-Our school is made up by much more than just individual students; together we are a family. The quad is our home, it’s where we gather. I feel with the new building, we won’t be as close.
- We will no longer have the reputation as “The School in the Parking Lot.”
- If we’re not as close, we will start forming cliques. I don’t want our school to be just like any, regular high school.
January 27, 2012 at 6:39 pm
Positive:
1. The new building will make iPoly look far more professional, and with it will inevitably come fame.
2. People won’t judge the school based on its appearance, and people might take it more seriously, like Cal Poly students and professors.
3. We won’t have parking lot jokes anymore.
Negative:
1. We won’t have parking lot jokes anymore.
2. With new fame, some of the people that our current appearance kept away will want in. The 500 student limit might meet maximum capacity some time soon.
3. Despite our new building, with its shiny walls and stairs and windows, we still don’t have a cafeteria or a gym. That’s pretty weak.
January 27, 2012 at 6:48 pm
Pros
-New bathrooms! yay!
-Closer to the bus stop.
-I’ve always wanted to know what a real high school felt like, so the new one might help a little bit?
Cons
-Farther away from all the wonderful food! :’(
-It wont really feel like Ipoly anymore?
-Dance Girls have to walk farther to go to the gym for dance.
January 27, 2012 at 6:55 pm
Well I have grown accustomed to our parking lot school, I do think change can be a good thing. I am actually rather excited for the new building to be complete, and am glad I will be able to participate in the first graduating ceremony in our new school.
Pros:
1. Closer to where I park on the hill.
2. Our own theater to host drama and improv productions.
3. Senior classes on the first floor. No stairs for us. :b
Cons:
1. I won’t be able to tell people my school is in a parking lot.
2. I have become so accustomed to the layout of the portables, it will be a mission to remember where our new classes are.
3. Getting up to Cal Poly will take longer.
January 27, 2012 at 7:00 pm
I personally have always wondered what it would feel like going to a normal high school like all other kids. But my opinion on the new building is a lake of mixed emotions. There are times where I am excited to finally get to experience a normal school, but other times where I’m not as excited, for the simple fact that I spent three wonderful high school years in the portables. Most of my memories are located in the portables. I remember that before I came to iPoly I detested the portables, but as soon as I started the school I came to like them. The fact that we had to work with what we got in a school of portables located on a parking lot, made me appreciate what we had a lot more. I feel that with the new building future iPoly students will not appreciate what they have as much.
Pros:
1.We would have our own multipurpose room to use whenever we want.
2 We will have more classroom space for presentations.
3.It will give iPoly a better image to other people. They might also take our school more seriously.
Cons:
1.Future students might not appreciate our school as much as we do.
2.More rules might be enforced on us. We might not have as much freedom in the quad as we do right now.
3.We will be a lot closer to being a normal school. We will start losing what makes iPoly so unique and special from other schools.
January 27, 2012 at 7:49 pm
When I first heard that we were getting a new building, I was super excited! But then as I thought more into it, I realized how sad that would be. Especially as the building is really starting to come together, it’s becoming harder and harder not to think about what we’ll be losing. All of our memories from three of the “best years of our lives”, and the comfortable atmosphere that we’re all used to.
Pros:
1. We are getting new EVERYTHING. Bathrooms, water fountains, and even computers! All of our supplies will be all shiny and new.
2. We’ll have shelter from rain, wind, and the occasional flying wool.
3. People will hopefully take our school(and the people who attend) more seriously.
Cons:
1. Our portables that we have all known and loved will be gone. We won’t even be able to come back and visit, the parking lot will be empty.
2. Far away from Cal Poly, meaning our normal routines will have to change.
3. Being that we’ll have a building like most other schools, iPoly won’t feel like iPoly anymore. I’m going to miss saying I go to school on a parking lot.
January 27, 2012 at 8:03 pm
Pros;
1. Real classrooms that are structurely sound
2. Protection from the rain
3. We will finally be looked at as a real high school instead of a bunch of “nerds” in portables.
Cons:
1. We lose the originality and feel of ipoly being all a bunch of bungalows in the middle parking lot.
2. Takes more time to get to next class.
3. No more student store.
January 27, 2012 at 8:29 pm
The new building school is a really exited for the Principal, She has been waiting for years this new school. For me, at first I was OMG! a new school and we are the first class Graduating from it but, now I feel sad because I think the magic of being as a Family is going to dissapear. I loved my school in the Parking Lot. When I go to my “HOUSE” i feel is my house because is like a house for me. Besides, on the structure is not going to be the same.
Pros:
1. Protection from the rain
2. Getting everything NEW (tables, computers, ect)
3. Resstrom will be better
Cons:
1. The new building is going to make I-Polyto not feel as the real I-Poly
2. Our memories are going to stay on the portables that are goin to destroy
3. The halls are going to be crowded while going to the classroom
January 27, 2012 at 8:35 pm
Since I was in the 8th grade and still trying to find a high school, my ASB advisor told me about her old high school. She attended iPoly and she would constantly tell me all of the amazing stories of the school and how close the school was as a family. The first day I went to shadow, I was fairly nervous about checking out the new school. Once I was dropped off I was memorized about how small and welcoming the portables looked like. I felt like I was right at home. I have grown to love the portables, we have created our own set of memories as a class. The arrival of the new building is bittersweet. Although I have spent most of my years in the portables it is going to be a great honor knowing that my class was the very first to try out the building.
Pros.
- Drama will finally have a space for drama and we won’t have to pile everything in Hogan’s room.
- A better learning environment.
- teachers will get their classroom fixed to what they teach.
Cons.
- Just like my peers I agree that, we won’t have the chance to tell people that we go to portables in a parking lot.
- I feel like iPoly will loose its grasp on being a close, family like environment.
- Finally I feel that iPoly
- We will be farther away from Cal Poly.
January 27, 2012 at 8:38 pm
As a member of the class of 2013, I have the opportunity to see the transition of iPoly from a parking lot school to a school with actual building. I do not stand on either side of pros and cons because I do not make judgement on things that I do not have experience with.
But here are some pros and cons about the new building:
Pros:
1) It faster and easier for the students who take buses to reach the bus stop.
2) The multimedia room and the computer lab will give students a wider resource and a fresh unique experience for the projects.
3) HOT WATERS IN THE BATHROOM.
Cons:
1) Lose the unique name and feeling of parking lot school.
2) Harder to get to classes because the tight space of the hall ways.
3) Longer walk to CPP and closer to the main road, which is always loud.
January 27, 2012 at 8:38 pm
When I see the new building I feel a jaded excitement, because i know I’ll miss the parking lot I am being schooled in currently. I also know that I would enjoy the new building and all it’s new technology.
Pros:
1.There will be more space.
2.There will be more technology and materials available for students.
3.Vehicles will not be driving thought the school grounds.
Cons:
1.I-Poly will lose some of it’s unique features and lose it’s sense of community.
2.Students will be farther from their main source of nutrition.
3.Rules might change, change scares people.
January 27, 2012 at 9:15 pm
I believe that the new buildingbe very useful and would be a great privilage to be the first to graduate from it. But I also believe that we the i-poly community would not be as unique as we were with your beloved portables.
Pros.
1) Better image of the school.
2) more facilities and drinkable water fountains.
3) spacious roomfor a more enjoyable class time.
Cons.
1) lost if unique privileges as a school.
2) Farther from lunch area.
3) tradition would go with the old “lot k”
